You can burn the same number of calories in half the time by climbing stairs versus going on a brisk walk. Why? Walking up stairs is a more intense activity and increases your heart rate faster than walking alone.
Fortunately, it's pretty easy to find stairs — no gym membership required.
Your Challenge: On at least 5 days each week, spend a solid 5-minutes walking stairs. (By the end of each week those 25 minutes could mean an extra 250-calories burned.)

Want more from your minutes?
- Take the stairs two at a time for a better leg and glute workout.
- Find a staircase that you can go UP for a continuous five minutes. Going down doesn't offer the same calorie-burn benefits.
- Do it with a friend. You'll probably be more likely to go over the 5-minute mark without even noticing.
- Run stairs at the local high school or park (make sure you stick close to the handrail for safety).
