At least four times each week swap out your smoking or tobacco habit for something else. Swapping out just four cigarettes might not sound like it can make a difference, but practicing not giving in to cravings can be a huge confidence booster when you aim to cut back more significantly, or, when you try to quit for good.

For most tobacco users intense cravings last for five minutes. If you can find something different to do with your hands, mouth or body during those five minutes you could eliminate one 'serving' of tobacco from your body.

Sample Swap Outs
- Play a game. Keep your mind busy with something else for a few minutes and see if the craving passes.
- Chew a piece of gum. Cinnamon gum seems to work best for clearing cravings.
- Take a shower. The relaxation that comes from a hot shower or bath might be the stress relief your body was craving.
- Do some mindless social networking. By the time you've scrolled to the bottom of your Facebook home page, your craving may have subsided.
- Do 20 pushups, jumping jacks or sit-ups. The physical effort and heavier breathing that comes with might make the taste of tobacco sound less appealing.
